I went to Montreal last weekend.. and my it was FREEZING COLD!!! minus 29 degrees without wind chill.. which means its like minus 39 degrees with windchill lah.. terrible!!!
My mum's gonna kill me if she knew how cold it was... but I survived it.. Thank God! so don't worry yea mummy... =)
left on Friday afternoon via coach.. trip was alright.. till the mid part.. when the group of engineering students at e back decided to make a whole lot of noise and disturb the peace in the bus.. they got really noisy and its not like they were on a private bus.. there were other ppl, like me, trying to get some sleep.. but they didn't care lah.. some guys were just talking super loudly, dotting their speech with profanities... a girl couldn't stand it and POLITELY asked them to keep it down.. but they not only didn't, but said "hey.. she's asking for more man!" i mean.. come on.. they had to be i can't believe that we had to be stuck in e traffic jam to enter Montreal.. for an extra hr.. *rolls eyes*
maybe that's why guys have to be sent to army before they enter uni.. so they'd be more mature.. (not that i've met really mature guys in uni in sg lah.. forgive me for saying that.. =p) but at least they don't act like kids..
ah wells, neway, first night in Montreal.. went to Chinatown for dinner.. checked out this buffet..
was pretty good.. for an overseas chinese restaurant.. in fact, it was so good, i overate.. wahhaha.. =D was so excited to see all that chinese food man.. there was bao,siewmai,roast pork,roast duck,chicken cooked in like at least 5 different chinese styles,cha sau,tawgay(i know its cheap in sg.. but come on lah.. i miss it.. =P),fish,crab,mussels,pregnant fish(i think this was like one of the best dishes), hot&sour soup.... ok.. i shall stop going on and on about it.. =P neways, point is, i'm deprived of good chinese food.. i miss yong tau foo! and kway chap! and beef horfan! and just chi cha! okok.. shall REALLY STOP NOW.. will have pic evidence coming up soon!
i guess that's what ppl mean when they say tt they miss singaporean food.. you'd never know what you're missing till you're gone.. and tho i'm seriously not picky about food and i haven't been eating crap here, a good bowl of piping hot yong tau foo soup would be wonderful.. thank you very much.. =P
k.. anyway, after dinner, we wanted to go to Old Montreal, a part of Montreal that was the old port with its architecture left as it was in the 1500s. anyways, in a nut shell it was so so so friggin cold i just wanted to leave in like 15 mins.. (i think we stayed like almost 45 mins in the end) the lights at night along Old Montreal was supposed to be really pretty.. but i was so concentrated on keeping my head down to shield from the wind and to wriggle my toes so they won't freeze that i didn't see a thing.. yah.. sad yeah?
well.. that's the first day.. second day.. sat..was more happening..
went to this hill, Mont Royal where we can see the whole of Montreal.. As you can guess already.. the cold weather nearly killed us.. but the snow and the hill.. everything was so beautiful..
then.. the biggest disappointment in the whole of the trip..
just give you all a lil background...
the British Museum has a large collection of Egyptian artifacts and is going on a North American area tour.. Montreal being its only Canadian and last stop of this whole tour... the exhibition was printed 22 jan on both brochures and posted on its site.. but when we went to the Museum, it said.. exhibition: 27 Jan to 5 May....

ok.. thing is.. i have been fascinated by ancient Egyptian history ever since my dad bought me this DK cd on ancient civilisations.. i mean.. i was a lil obsessed with it for a lil while.. when i went to bookstores like Kino, i'd go look for books about Egyptian History and Mummies.... find out about their religions, their practices.. etc.. its my dream to go to egypt.. i felt so cheated.. hai~.. had to contend with the brochure...
neways, next highlight of the trip.. Notre-Dame Basillica.. a remake of the Notre-Dame church in Paris..Architecture wise... very very very marvelous... it is truely beautiful..but that's about it.. great architecture.. the whole church, as of many catholic churchs... (don't be offended) like Siestin Chapel (with the michaeangelo pianting on its ceiling) are..well.. too commercialised..
not only we had to pay an entrance fee, but there was this lights and sound show.. (which i thought was some nice light thing to empahsise the archi and the stained glass if the building, in the end..) which like showed some video thing on how the church was built, with like scenes of the past acted out.. normally. i'd find history and all tt stuff interesting.. but this time.. it was done in such a commercial way it just turned me off.. ah wells, neway beautiful pics will be out soon!
didn't do much on sunday, went to the olympic stadium and got cheated to enter an indoor zoo.. (we thought it was a museum that could let us experience the 4 seasons in some simulated kinda thing).. neways, was a bright and sunny day... great for pics.. so a trip down to old Montreal.. this time with out freezing our toes off.. =)
was quite a good trip.. learnt new stuff on how to be street wise when i travel.. haha.. =D
i think after all my travels can come up with a book "101 travel tips you have to know" haha... Montreal is definately worth a 2nd visit.. when its warmer..=P but we'd see how the rou's travel fund is doing first... haha..
